Toyota Innova Crysta to be discontinued next year

New reports reveal that the Toyota Innova Crysta will be discontinued in India in 2027. It was launched back in 2016. The ladder-frame chassis of the diesel MPV will make it hard for Toyota to tweak it to be compliant with the upcoming CAFE 3 emission norms. The automaker will launch a lower-spec version of the Innova Hycross to replace the Crysta.

Toyota Innova Crysta: Replacement on the way

Due to the popularity that the Innova Crysta enjoys among fleet operators, Toyota Kirloskar India will introduce a stripped-down, lower-spec version of the Innova HyCross to replace it once it is discontinued. The entry-level petrol variant of the HyCross is currently priced lower than the Crysta, but fleet operators prefer the latter due to better mileage. The HyCross uses a monocoque chassis instead of a ladder frame. It remains to be seen which features Innova will ditch for the new lower-spec model, and whether it will tweak the engine to offer better mileage.

The Toyota Innova Crysta is powered by a 2.4-litre diesel engine. This engine produces a maximum power output of 148hp and 343Nm of torque. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. There is no option for an automatic transmission. Since there is no option for an AWD configuration, the power generated is channelled to the rear wheels only. The MPV offers an ARAI-certified mileage of 15.6km/l.

Meanwhile, the Toyota Innova HyCross is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine. This engine alone generates a maximum power output of 173hp and 205Nm of torque. It is mated to a CVT gearbox and offers a fuel economy of 10km/l. In a strong hybrid configuration, this engine puts out 184hp. It is mated to an e-CVT gearbox. The strong hybrid model offers a fuel economy of 16.13km/l. Only the top-spec variants of the MPV are available with this configuration.
