Tata Sierra spotted testing, believed to be AWD or CNG variant

Tata Sierra launched in India in November 2025, but test mules of the SUV continue to be spotted across the country. Most of these units belong to its all-electric sibling, which is still in its testing phase. However, earlier this week, an ICE model of the SUV was spotted on a road with full camouflage. This could either be the AWD or CNG version of the Sierra.

Tata Sierra: What’s next?

Since its launch in November 2025, Tata Sierra has enjoyed immense success in India. It garnered over 70,000 pre-orders as soon as its booking window was opened. Earlier this month, it crossed 1 lakh bookings, with Tata pumping the gas on the SUV’s production.

Tata Motors has gone on record to state that it will introduce AWD and CNG versions of the Sierra if there’s enough demand for them. The CNG powertrain has already been developed and validated by the automaker. While it remains to be seen which model was being road tested, the possibility of Tata launching both models later this year is not outrageous. The recent test mule had exhaust pipes, which ruled out the possibility of it being an all-electric model.

Currently, Tata Sierra comes in 3 engine options. The 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated ‘Revotron’ petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 105hp and 145Nm torque. It can be mated to a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, TGDI ‘Hyperion’ petrol engine made its debut on the Sierra. It produces a maximum power output of 158hp and 255Nm torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Lastly, the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, ‘Kryojet’ diesel engine generates a maximum power output of 116hp. With a 6-speed manual transmission, it produces 260Nm torque. This output increases to 280Nm when the engine is linked to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
