286 units of the Suzuki Jimny 3-door have been recalled in Queensland, Australia due to a potential fault with the fuel pump. Since Suzuki Queensland operates as a separate entity from Suzuki Australia, a nationwide recall has not been mandated yet. In December 2023, the made-in-India Suzuki Jimny 5-door was also launched in Australia.

Suzuki Jimny: Recall initiated in Queensland

The 286 units of Suzuki Jimny up for recall were manufactured between 2018 and 2019. According to the recall notice submitted to the Department of Infrastructure, the manufacturing defect lies with the fuel pump impeller, which may swell and cause the fuel pump to stop working. If this occurs, the engine could stall, resulting in a loss of power.

The automaker will contact the affected owners and replace the fuel pump free of charge. Affected owners can also schedule an appointment at their local Suzuki dealership to get the issue fixed. It remains to be seen whether Suzuki Australia will initiate a similar recall for the Jimny 3-door across the country.

The recently launched 5-door Suzuki Jimny is the biggest out of the three variants sold in Australia and stands at dimensions of 3850mm x 1645mm x 1730mm with a wheelbase of 2,550 mm. It is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. This engine produces a maximum power output of 102hp and 130Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. It also receives Suzuki’s All Grip Pro AWD with low-range transfer gear (4L mode).

The Suzuki Jimny 5-door offers a 9.0-inch touchscreen Smart Play Pro+ infotainment system with DAB radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. It also has a 4-speaker audio system. However, the biggest change on the Suzuki Jimny XL is the presence of an ADAS package. This ADAS package is missing from its Indian counterpart.

In India, Maruti Suzuki recalled over 16,000 units of the Baleno and Wagon R today over a faulty fuel pump issue. This includes 11,851 units of the Baleno and 4,190 units of Wagon R. Maruti Suzuki will contact the affected owners and replace the faulty part free of cost.
