Skoda Superb: What to expect?

Skoda Superb follows the automaker’s Modern Solid design language. Its new octagonal grille frame is finished in ‘Unique Dark Chrome’. The Skoda logo on the bonnet, the front apron’s decorative trim strips, and the tailgate lettering get the same finish. The 2nd-generation LED Matrix beam headlamps flanking the grille are integrated with LED DRLs. These units have a total of 36 individual light segments. The top-spec L&K trim of the sedan includes an animated Coming/Leaving Home function for the LED tail lamps. The Superb stands at dimensions of 4,912mm x 1,849mm x 1,481mm and has a wheelbase of 2,841mm. Its boot space capacity is 645 litres.

Inside, the 4th-gen Skoda Superb flaunts a free-standing 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with a 10-inch digital instrument cluster which the automaker prefers to call ‘Virtual Cockpit’. Each trim of the sedan receives a different colour theme and design selection for the interior. There are 3 ‘Smart Dials’ on the dashboard which can be used to control functions like infotainment volume, fan speed, air direction, smart air conditioning, driving modes, map zoom, and more. Each dial has a 32mm digital display.

The 4th-gen Skoda Sedan has a versatile powertrain. Buyers get to choose from 2 petrol engines, 2 diesel engines, and a plug-in hybrid. The 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine can put out 150hp by itself and is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It also receives mild-hybrid tech. The 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine can put out 204hp and 265hp, depending on the tuning. It is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and gets an AWD configuration.

Conclusion

Skoda Superb will be imported to India as a Completely Build Up (CBU) unit. It remains to be seen which trims and powertrains of the sedan will be introduced in the Indian market. The 2nd-gen Superb, which is currently on sale in India, is priced at Rs 54 lakh. The next-gen model will rival the Toyota Camry upon launch.
