Petrol variants for Tata Safari and Harrier revealed

The highly anticipated petrol variants of the Tata Safari and Harrier SUVs have finally been revealed by the automaker. Tata has announced that these variants will be powered by the 1.5-litre Hyperion petrol engine that made its debut on the newly-launched Sierra SUV. However, it will produce a greater output on Tata’s big SUVs. The output numbers have also been revealed.

Tata Safari and Harrier: Now with a petrol powertrain

On the Sierra, the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder, TGDI ‘Hyperion’ turbo-petrol engine produces a maximum output of 158hp @ 5,000rpm and 255Nm torque @ 1,750-4,000rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. On the Safari and Harrier, it produces a maximum power output of 170hp and 280Nm of torque. The diesel engine powering the two SUVs has an identical power output.

The petrol engine will be available across 7 trims of the Tata Harrier – Smart, Pure X, Adventure X, Adventure X+, Fearless X, Fearless X+, and the new Fearless Ultra. The new range-topping Fearless Ultra trim will be equipped with a Samsung-sourced 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an IVRM, Dolby Atmos support, fast Type-C charging (65W), a built-in dashcam, a wash function for the reversing cameras, and a memory function for the OVRMs. It will rock a white-and-brown dual-tone theme for the cabin.

The Tata Safari offers a petrol across the following 7 trims – Smart, Pure X, Adventure X, Adventure X+, Accomplished X, Accomplished X+, and the new Accomplished Ultra. The top-spec Accomplished Ultra trim shares its features with Harrier’s Fearless Ultra trim. Both trims are exclusively available with the turbo-petrol powertrain. Safari’s top-spec model comes with a dual-tone white-and-gold colour theme for the cabin.

Final Thoughts

Tata Motors will announce the pricing for the petrol variants of the Safari and Harrier in the coming days. The Tata Safari range starts at Rs 14.66 lakh and goes up to Rs 25.96 lakh. Meanwhile, the Harrier is priced between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 25.25 lakh. Both SUVs rival the MG Hector PlusMahindra Scorpio NJeep Compass, and Hyundai Alcazar in India.
