New shots of the Mahindra Thar 5-door confirm a 10-inch infotainment system for the lifestyle SUV. At the bottom of the infotainment system lie some quick action physical buttons. The new Thar also gets a new steering wheel, which looks similar to the one on the XUV700 and Scorpio N. This steering wheel gets integrated controls and a squarish panel for the horn. A single pane sunroof will also make its way to the 5-door Thar. Rumours suggest that the lifestyle SUV will also offer a dashcam as a standard feature.

Talking about the exterior cosmetic changes, the front grille on the new Mahindra Thar 5-door now gets 5 vertical slats and a horizontal bar in the middle. This new grille looks inspired by Jeep SUVs. The LED projector headlamps and DRLs also get a new design on the 5-door Thar. The fog lamps also get LEDs. The housing positions of the headlamps and DRLs remain the same.

Mahindra Thar 5-door will be underpinned by Scorpio N’s platform, making it dimensionally bigger than the 3-door Thar. Since the 5-door isn’t under 4 metres in length, it will not qualify for additional tax benefits. It remains to be seen whether Mahindra will utilise the larger cabin space to insert a third seating row on the Thar. The test units spotted testing had dummy seats for the second row.

The Mahindra Thar 5-door will retain the  2 engine options – a 2.2-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre petrol engine. It will also come in a 2WD configuration like its 3-door counterpart. However, it won’t get the 1.5-litre diesel engine found in the entry-level variants of the 3-door Thar. The option of an automatic transmission will be reserved solely for 4×4 variants.
