Maruti Suzuki Dzire has breezed past the 3 million production milestone before the end of 2024. Alto, Swift, and Wagon R are the only other Maruti Suzuki offerings to reach this landmark. It took the Dzire 16 years and 11 months to accomplish this feat. The sedan was introduced in India back in 2008. This year, Maruti Suzuki launched the 4th-generation version of the sedan.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire: One of the popular sedans in India
Maruti Suzuki Dzire was launched in India in March 2008. The first million units of the sedan were produced by April 2015. The next million were manufactured by June 2019. It took the automaker 5 years to produce the last million units. The 2nd-gen model of the sedan was introduced in 2012, while the 3rd and 4th-gen models were launched in 2017 and 2024 respectively.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire has been India’s bestselling sedan since its launch. It is the 4th most sold vehicle in India overall. 1 in every 2 compact sedans sold in India since 2008 has been a Dzire. Apart from local sales, Dzire also makes up a big portion of Maruti Suzuki’s exports. It is among the top 5 export models from the automaker. Since October 2008, 2.6 lakh units of the Dzire have been exported to 48 countries. In FY 2023-24, it was the second-highest exported model by Maruti Suzuki.
Powering the 4th-gen Maruti Suzuki Dzire is the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, Z12E petrol engine. This engine also powers the current-gen Swift hatchback. It produces a maximum power output of 80hp and 112Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox. With a manual transmission, this engine offers a mileage of 24.79kmpl. Automatic variants of the sedan offer a fuel economy of 25.71kmpl.

Prices for the 4th-gen Maruti Suzuki Dzire start at Rs 6.79 lakh and go up to Rs 10.14 lakh. The 3rd-gen model of the sedan is rebadged and sold as the Tour S. In India, the Dzire rivals the Tata Tigor, Hyundai Aura, and Honda Amaze.
