Maruti Suzuki Celerio receives a 3-star safety rating from Global NCAP

The Global NCAP has awarded a 3-star safety rating to the Maruti Suzuki Celerio. It tested 2 models of the hatchback, one with 2 airbags and the other with 6 airbags. The 2-airbag model was given a 2-star rating, while the latter was awarded 3 stars. GNCAP also crash tested the Ciaz alongside the Celerio. The sedan received an unimpressive 1-star safety rating.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio: GNCAP test results explained

In the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) test, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio scored 18.04 points out of a possible 34. Upon frontal impact, the protection offered to the driver’s head and tibia was adequate. The knees and feet showed marginal protection. The neck was well protected. However, the chest showed weak protection. Meanwhile, the passenger’s head, neck, and left tibia showed good protection. The protection offered to the chest and right tibia was adequate, and the knees were marginally protected.

Upon side impact, the head and chest of the driver showed marginal protection, and the abdomen showed adequate protection. and the pelvis showed good protection. The side pole impact revealed that the protection offered to the head and pelvis was good, while the chest and abdomen were marginally protected.

In the Child Occupant Protection (COP) test, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio scored 18.57 points out of a possible 49. The child seats for the test dummies of 3-year and 18-month old children were installed forward-facing using the adult seatbelt. They were not able to prevent head exposure during frontal impact. The chest and neck showed poor protection, too. During side impact, the 18-month CRS offered full side impact protection, while the 3-year old CRS could not contain the head during the impact.

The Celerio received 6 airbags as standard back in February. It is powered by the K10C 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. This engine generates a maximum power output of 55hp and 89Nm of torque. It can be paired with a manual or automatic transmission. These transmission options offer a mileage of 25.24kmpl and 26.68kmpl respectively. Meanwhile, its CNG model generates a maximum power output of 56hp and 82Nm of torque. It has a fuel economy of 34.43km/kg. This makes the Celerio one of the most power-efficient cars in India.

Final Thoughts

Prices for the Celerio start at Rs 4.70 lakh and go up to Rs 6.73 lakh. The hatchback is due for a big update soon. It currently rivals the Tata TiagoRenault Kwid, and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. in India.
