The Mahindra XUV 3XO is set to get a CNG powertrain in the coming months. The 3XO is already one of the most versatile SUVs in the market right now, available in petrol, diesel, and electric powertrains. The all-electric model was launched in January 2026. It remains to be seen whether the CNG model of the SUV will get a split-cylinder setup like Tata’s CNG offerings.

The ICE version of the XUV 3XO currently comes in 3 engine options – 1.2-litre 3-cylinder direct-injection turbo petrol, 1.2-litre turbo petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel. The 1.2-litre 3-cylinder mStallion direct-injection turbo-petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 131hp and 230Nm torque. The 1.2-litre turbo petrol puts out 110hp. The 1.5-litre diesel engine generates a power output of 117hp. These engines can be mated to manual and AMT gearboxes.
The CNG version of the Mahindra XUV 3XO will likely be offered with the 1.2-litre non-DI turbo petrol engine. As is the case with CNG models, its output specs will be diminished in comparison to the petrol powertrain. The CNG tank will eat into the boot space capacity of the SUV, which currently stands at 295 litres. Mahindra could go for a split-cylinder setup commonly found in Tata’s CNG cars or an underbody tank like Maruti’s CNG offerings.
The all-electric XUV 3XO, launched in January 2026, is powered by a front-mounted electric motor. It generates a maximum power output of 150hp and 310Nm of torque. The 39.4kWh battery can go up to 285km on a single full charge. A 50kW DC fast charger takes up to 50 minutes to charge the SUV from 0 to 80%. There are 3 drive modes on offer – Fun, Fast and Fearless.
The XUV 3XO CNG will be available with the entry-level and mid-spec variants of the ICE model. It will get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, and other convenience features. However, it will miss out on premium features like a Level 2 ADAS package, Dolby Atmos support, a subwoofer, and more.

We expect the prices for the CNG model to start at Rs 8 lakh. It will likely be introduced by the end of 2026. Upon launch, it will rival the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG, Tata Nexon CNG, Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG, Nissan Magnite CNG, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor CNG.
