Mahindra Thar Roxx gets a 5-star safety rating from BNCAP

Bharat NCAP has awarded a 5-star safety rating to the Mahindra Thar Roxx. The lifestyle SUV was crash-tested by the assessment body last month. BNCAP used the entry-level MX3 and mid-spec AX5 L variants for the crash tests. However, the 5-star rating applies to all variants of the SUV. The XUV 3XO and XUV400 also received 5-star ratings from the Bharat NCAP.

Mahindra Thar Roxx: BNCAP test results explained

Mahindra Thar Roxx scored 31.09 points out of a possible 32 in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) test. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the SUV offered good protection to the driver’s head, neck and abdomen. The protection to the driver’s chest and legs was adequate. The passenger’s head, neck, chest, abdomen, and legs showed good protection. In the side movable deformable barrier and side pole impact tests, the SUV showed good protection to the head, chest, and abdomen.

In the Child Occupant Protection (COP) test, Mahindra Thar Roxx scored 45 points out of a possible 49. It garnered a Dynamic score of 24 points (max. 24), a CRS installation score of 12 points (max. 12), and a Vehicle assessment score of 9 points (max. 13). The SUV was crash tested using test dummies for 18-month-old and 3-year-old children.

When it comes to safety, Mahindra Thar Roxx features 6 airbags, 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and seatbelt reminder as standard across all variants. The lifestyle SUV is equipped with a Level 2 ADAS package which includes features like Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, and a 360-degree surround view system with Blind View Monitor. Other features include a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Brake Locking Differential (BLD), and more.

The Mahindra Thar Roxx is available with two powertrains. The 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 174hp and 380Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the 2.2-litre diesel engine puts out 172hp and 370Nm. These engines can be mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.

Conclusion

Prices for the Mahindra Thar Roxx start at Rs 12.99 lakh and go up to Rs 22.49 lakh for the top-spec variant. It rivals other lifestyle SUVs like the 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny and 5-door Force Gurkha.
