Mahindra Thar and XUV700 facelifts to launch next year

Mahindra Auto will introduce the facelifted models for the Thar and XUV700 SUVs in 2026, sources say. The Mahindra Thar was launched in 2020, while the XUV700 made its way to India the following year. Since then, Mahindra has launched a 5-door Thar and an Ebony Edition for the XUV700. Due to the rising competition, both SUVs need an update to keep up with their rivals.

Mahindra Thar and XUV700: What to expect from the facelifted models?

The Mahindra Thar facelift is internally codenamed ‘W515’. The facelifted model will follow the design language of its 5-door counterpart, Thar Roxx. The front fascia of the lifestyle SUV will feature a new grille design with multiple vertical slots. It will also get C-shaped LED headlamps and taillamps. The bumpers, body cladding, and alloy wheels will also be redesigned.

Mahindra Thar Roxx

Things will remain unchanged under the hood for the Mahindra Thar facelift. It will carry forward the current 3 powertrains. The 2.0-litre petrol engine powering the SUV produces a maximum power output of 152hp. The 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine generates a maximum power output of 119hp and 300Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine puts out 132hp.

The XUV700 facelift will borrow design elements from the two new all-electric Mahindra Origin SUVs – BE 6 and XEV 9e. The facelifted model will get a new design for the grille, LED headlamps, bumpers, and alloy wheels. It will exude a futuristic look while retaining the DNA of the outgoing model.

Mahindra XUV700 Interior

No changes will be made to the XUV700 facelift’s powertrains either. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 200hp and 380Nm of torque. The 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine generates a maximum power output of 185hp and 420Nm of torque in top-spec variants. Both engines can be linked to a 6-speed manual or torque converter gearbox. With an automatic gearbox, the torque output of the diesel engine jumps to 450Nm.

Final Thoughts

Prices for the current-gen Mahindra Thar start at Rs 11.50 lakh and go up to Rs 17.60 lakh. It rivals the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha. Meanwhile, the XUV700 is priced between Rs 13.99 lakh and Rs 25.74 lakh. It rivals the Tata Safari, Jeep Compass, and MG Hector Plus in India. The facelifted models of both variants will demand a premium over their current-gen counterparts.
