Lower trims of Tata Harrier EV to get AWD soon

Tata Motors will be bringing the All Wheel Drive (AWD) configuration to the mid-level trims of the Harrier EV soon. Currently, only the top-spec Empowered trim of the Tata Harrier EV rocks AWD. The automaker has revealed that the QWD (Quad Wheel Drive, as Tata prefers to call it) variant accounts for 30% of the sales of the EV. Making the drive configuration more affordable will result in a further boost in sales.

Tata Harrier EV: Empowering the mid-spec trims with AWD

The Harrier EV comes in 6 variants – Adventure 65 (RWD), Adventure S 65 (RWD), Fearless+ 65 (RWD), Fearless+ 75 (RWD), Empowered 75 (RWD), Empowered 75 (AWD). The top-spec Empowered 75 variant with AWD is priced at Rs 28.99 lakh. Tata will likely bring AWD to the mid-spec Fearless+ trim of the electric SUV.

The all-electric Tata Harrier stands at dimensions of 4,607mm x 2,132mm x 1,740mm and has a 2,741mm wheelbase. This makes it 2mm longer, 210mm wider, and 22mm taller than its ICE sibling. The two models look almost identical, with the electric version sporting some EV-exclusive changes like a shut-off grille and EV badging.

Inside, the Harrier EV flaunts a 14.53-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the world’s first Samsung Neo QLED automotive display. There’s Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity on board. The dual-tone dashboard exudes a premium look. The four-spoke steering wheel has integrated controls and an illuminated Tata logo. Other features of the SUV include a 10-speaker JBL audio system, digital key, smart card, remote key, built-in navigation, memory seating, rear headrests, centre armrest with cupholders, a voice-assisted panoramic sunroof, a dual-zone climate control, cooled storage, an air purifier, ambient lighting, 65W wireless charging, and more.

The Harrier EV is one of the safest electric SUVs on the market, carrying a 5-star safety rating awarded by Bharat NCAP. It rocks 7 airbags, ESP with i-VBAC, Acoustic Vehicle Alert System, Hill Descent Control, Hill Hold Assist, TPMS, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, a 360-degree camera, and an e-IVRM with a digital video recorder. The Level 2 ADAS package contains over 20 features.

Tata Harrier at BNCAP crash tests

There are 2 battery pack options on offer – 65kWh and 75kWh. The 65kWh variants are powered by a single electric motor that’s mounted on the rear axle. This motor generates a maximum power output of 235hp. Meanwhile, the dual-motor AWD setup on the 75kWh Empowered variant churns out 390hp and 504Nm. It can go from 0–100 km/h in 6.3 seconds.

Final Thoughts

Prices for the Harrier EV start at Rs 21.49 lakh and go up to Rs 28.99 lakh. The new AWD variant will be priced around the Rs 26.50 lakh mark. Tata’s flagship electric SUV in India rivals the Mahindra XEV 9eMahindra BE 6Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, and Hyundai Creta Electric.
