Kia Carens Clavis EV launched in India at Rs 17.99 lakh

The Kia Carens Clavis EV has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs 17.99 lakh. Its top-spec variant fetches Rs 24.49 lakh. Its ICE sibling was launched back in May, at a starting price of Rs 11.50 lakh. The Carens Clavis EV joins the EV6 and EV9 in Kia’s electric portfolio in India. However, the Carens Clavis EV is the only electric offering out of the three that’s manufactured in India.

Variant Price
HTK+ Rs 17.99 lakh
HTX Rs 20.49 lakh
HTX Long Range Rs 22.49 lakh

The Kia Carens Clavis EV looks identical to its ICE sibling. It gets some EV-specific changes in the form of active aero flaps, a charging port cutout on the nose, a thin LED light bar connecting the DRLs, and exclusive EV badging. The lower bumper gets a silver trim, and the design of the LED fog lamps is slightly tweaked. The electric SUV rocks a frunk with a 25-litre capacity.

Inside, the Kia Carens Clavis EV looks similar to the ICE model. Since it doesn’t need a gearbox, it uses a floating design for the centre console to exude the additional space. The electric SUV gets dual 12.3-inch displays for the infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster. It supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other features include an 8-speaker Bose sound system, touch-sensitive HVAC and media controls, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a powered driver’s seat, connected car tech, wireless charging, and more. The EV also supports Vehicle-to-Vehicle and Vehicle-to-Load charging.

Safety features of the Kia Carens Clavis EV include 6 airbags, ABS, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Hill-Start Assist, and more. There’s a Level 2 ADAS package and a 360-degree camera onboard as well.

Kia Carens Clavis EV shares its battery and powertrain specs with the Hyundai Creta Electric. It comes in 2 battery pack options – 42kWh (404km range, ARAI) and 51.4kWh (490km range, ARAI). The electric motor is mounted on the front axle and produces a maximum power output of 135hp on the 42kWh variants and 171hp on the 51.4kWh variants. The torque remains consistent on all variants – 255Nm.

The two battery packs can be charged using a 7.4kW or 11kW AC charger. The smaller battery pack can be fully charged in 4 hours using the 11kW charger. The 51.4kWh battery pack takes 4 hours and 45 minutes to reach a 100% charge using the same charger.
