The Kia Carens Clavis EV shares its design with its ICE sibling. It gets some EV-specific changes like active aero flaps, a charging port cutout on the nose, and exclusive badging. A thin LED bar spanning the width of the bonnet connects the LED DRLs. The design of the fog lamps is slightly tweaked on the EV. The lower bumper gets a silver trim as well. The frunk has a 25-litre storage capacity.

Inside, the 7-seater electric SUV flaunts dual 12.3-inch displays for the touchscreen infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster. There’s support onboard for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SUV is also equipped with features like an 8-speaker Bose sound system, touch-sensitive HVAC and media controls, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a powered driver’s seat, connected car tech, wireless charging, and more. Its Vehicle-to-Vehicle and Vehicle-to-Load tech allows it to charge other EVs and electronic devices.

On the safety front, the Kia Carens Clavis EV gets 6 airbags, ABS, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Hill-Start Assist, and more. There’s a Level 2 ADAS package and a 360-degree camera onboard as well. The EV is yet to be crash-tested by Bharat  NCAP.

Powering the Kia Carens Clavis EV is a single electric motor mounted on the front axle. This is the same engine that powers the Hyundai Creta Electric. The two electric SUVs also share their battery packs. The Carens Clavis EV comes with 2 battery pack options: 42kWh (404km range, ARAI) and 51.4kWh (490km range, ARAI). The 42kWh variants produce a maximum power output of 135hp while the latter put out 171hp. All variants produce the same torque output – 255Nm.

Mr Joonsu Cho, Chief Sales Officer of Kia India, said, “The Carens Clavis EV marks a pivotal moment in Kia India’s journey towards making electric mobility truly inclusive and accessible. Being our first electric vehicle inspired by India, it is a 7-seater EV that reflects our vision to offer smart, sustainable, and accessible EV solutions with a true value for money proposition. It will ensure complete peace of mind with our capable EV ecosystem — including the K-Charge feature on MyKia app and a robust network of 250+ EV-ready workshops including 100+ dealerships equipped with DC fast charger. We’re excited to open bookings and invite customers to bring home their Carens Clavis EV.”

Final Thoughts

The Kia Carens Clavis EV is available in 6 colour options: Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Gray, Aurora Black Pearl, Pewter Olive, Imperial Blue, and Ivory Silver Matte. Kia has not specified the delivery rollout schedule for the EV. The 7-seater electric SUV has no true rivals, but it locks horns with the BYD eMax 7Hyundai Creta Electric, and Mahindra BE 6.
