Citroen Aircross awarded a 5-star safety rating by Bharat NCAP

Citroen Aircross is the latest midsize SUV to be crash tested by the Bharat NCAP. It has been awarded a 5-star safety rating by the testing authority. The midsize SUV comes in 5 and 7-seat layouts. The 5-star rating is only applicable to the 5-seat ‘You’ and ‘Plus’ variants. These variants come in 2 engine options – 1.2L NA Petrol, and 1.2L Turbo Petrol.

Citroen Aircross: Crash test results explained

In the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) test, the Citroen Aircross garnered 27.05 points out of a possible 32. The results in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test were quite mediocre, with the SUV managing to score 11.05 points out of a maximum 16. The driver’s head and neck showed good protection, while the legs and feet were adequately protected. However, the chest, pelvis, and thighs showed marginal protection. Meanwhile, the passenger’s head, neck, and legs showed good protection. The chest showed adequate protection, and the pelvis and thighs showed marginal protection. Good protection was shown across all body parts in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test (16/16) and Side Pole Impact Test.

In the Child Occupant Protection (COP) test, the Aircross SUV scored 40 points out of a possible 49. This included a maximum possible Dynamic score of 24 points, a maximum possible CRS installation score of 12 points, and a Vehicle assessment score of 4 points out of a maximum 13. The SUV was crash tested using child seats for 18-month-old and 3-year-old children.

The Aircross is equipped with 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ISOFIX child seat mounts, hill hold assist, and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) as standard safety features. The creature comforts on the SUV include automatic climate control, rear AC vents, an infotainment system, power windows and more.

The 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine on the SUV produces a maximum power output of 82hp and 115Nm of torque. The Aircross shares this engine with the C3 hatchback. It can be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It is not available in an automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 110hp and 190Nm of torque. This engine can be mated to a 6-speed manual or torque converter automatic gearbox.

Final Thoughts

Prices for the Citroen Aircross start at Rs 8.32 lakh and go up to Rs 14.10 lakh. As mentioned earlier, the 5-star rating applies only to the 5-seat variants of the SUV. It rivals the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Grand VitaraToyota Urban Cruiser HyRyderKia SeltosHyundai CretaVolkswagen TaigunHonda Elevate, and Skoda Kushaq in India.
