The 5-door Mahindra Thar will retain the design of its 3-door counterpart. Apart from the additional rear doors, no other cosmetic changes are expected on the 5-door Thar. It will be a visibly bigger vehicle than the 3-door Thar. Since its length will exceed 4 metres, it will not qualify for additional tax benefits. The 3-door Thar stands at a length of 3,985mm with a wheelbase of 2,450mm.
Talking about the powertrain, the 5-door Mahindra Thar will be made available in 2 engine options – a 2.2-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre petrol engine. The 5-door Thar is also set to come in a 2WD configuration like its 3-door counterpart. However, it won’t get the 1.5-litre diesel engine found in the entry-level variants of the 3-door Thar. The option of an automatic transmission will be reserved solely for 4×4 variants.
The most recent spy shots reveal that the 5-door Thar will get a large infotainment touchscreen system. The current 3-door Thar has a relatively smaller 7-inch touchscreen display. The one on the 5-door Thar is expected to be 10 inches or more. The biggest change inside the new 5-door Mahindra Thar will be the presence of a third seating row. Buyers may get the option to choose between 6-person and 7-person seating options.

As mentioned earlier, the 5-door Mahindra Thar is expected to launch in early 2024. Back in March, Mahindra hit the 1 lakh production landmark for the Thar. Once launched, the 5-door Mahindra Thar will rival the 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the 5-door Force Gurkha.
