2024 Honda Amaze to launch this Diwali

Key Highlights

  • The 3rd-gen Honda Amaze will be underpinned by the platform found on the City and Elevate.
  • It will continue with the 1.2-litre NA petrol engine.
  • Honda will design it in the mould of its bigger sedans which are sold overseas.

Honda is planning a festive season launch for the 3rd-gen Amaze this year. The current 2nd-gen version of the compact sedan was introduced in 2018. The next-gen Honda Amaze will be underpinned by a new platform and will feature a host of changes inside and out. The Amaze is Honda’s current entry-level car in India. The automaker’s portfolio in the country comprises the Amaze, City, City e:HEV, and the Elevate SUV.

3rd-gen Honda Amaze: What to expect?

The upcoming Honda Amaze will be underpinned by the same platform that does duty on the City sedan and Elevate SUV. Since the Amaze is a sub-4m compact sedan, this platform will be modified to have a smaller wheelbase. The current-gen Honda Amaze has a wheelbase of 2,470mm. In comparison, the City and Elevate have 2,600mm and 2,650mm wheelbases respectively.

While Honda has kept the design changes for the Amaze under a tight lid, it is expected to take cues from Honda’s bigger sedans sold overseas. We wouldn’t be surprised if the new Amaze looks similar to the current-gen Accord or Civic. It remains to be seen whether Honda will introduce the coupe-like sloping roofline on the compact sedan. The front fascia, alloy wheels, and rear profile will likely undergo a significant facelift.

Inside, the 2024 Honda Amaze may borrow the free-standing 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system from the Elevate SUV. Its cabin will also receive a significant design upgrade. Some components of the dashboard layout may be borrowed from other Honda offerings in India. Being an entry-level sedan, it is unlikely that the Amaze will get an ADAS package. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if Honda equips it with a single-pane sunroof.

As things stand, the 2024 Honda Amaze will continue to be powered by the 1.2-litre iVTEC naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine produces a maximum power output of 89hp and 110Nm peak torque. Transmission options include a five-speed manual and a CVT gearbox. Honda discontinued the 1.5-litre iDTEC diesel engine from the Amaze lineup back in 2022. This engine was capable of producing a peak power output of 100hp and 200Nm peak torque.

Conclusion

Slated for a Diwali launch, Honda will begin the road tests for the 3rd-gen Amaze in the coming months. Expect the automaker to start dropping teasers for the sedan a few weeks before the official reveal. The next-gen Honda Amaze will also demand a small premium over the current-gen model. Upon launch, it will continue to rival the Hyundai Aura, Tata Tigor, and Maruti Suzuki Dzire.
