Tata Tiago EV

Starting Price: Rs 7.99 lakh

With prices starting at Rs 7.99 lakh, the Tata Tiago EV is the most affordable electric car you can buy in India right now. This is about as ‘budget’ as budget electric cars can get. Based on its ICE sibling, the Tiago EV retains its design while incorporating some EV-exclusive changes like the shut-off grille and blue highlights. The cabin layout is similar to the ICE model as well but the EV sports premium leatherette seating.

There are two IP67-rated battery pack options on offer: 19.2kWh and 24kWh. Tata claims an MIDC range of 250km for the former and 315km for the latter. The  Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor powering the electric hatchback delivers a peak power output of 55kW and an instant full torque delivery of 114Nm.

MG Comet EV

Starting Price: Rs 6.99 lakh

Although the MG Comet EV is cheaper than the Tiago EV, we consider it to be more of an urban commuter than a passenger car. Despite its compact nature, the Comet EV is decked with premium features. It flaunts dual 10.25-inch screens for the infotainment system and the instrument cluster. The two-spoke steering wheel comes with integrated controls. The centre control is detached from the dashboard and houses a rotary knob for gear selection, power window switches, and an electronic parking brake.

The IP67-rated 17.3kWh battery pack on the Comet offers a driving range of 230km. Using the 3.3kW charger that comes with the car, the EV can be fully charged in seven hours. Powering the Comet EV is a single electric motor that can produce a maximum power output of 42hp and 110Nm of torque.

Citroen eC3

Starting Price: Rs 11.63 lakh

Tata Tiago EV’s closest electric hatchback competitor in India is the Citroen eC3. Prices for the eC3 start at Rs 11.63 lakh. Like the Tiago EV, the eC3 also retains the design of its ICE sibling. The cabin layout also follows the design language of the ICE C3. The gearbox is replaced by the drive selector on the EV. The 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the EV supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Powering the Citroen eC3 is a single electric motor that can produce a peak power output of 57hp and 143Nm torque. The China-sourced 29.2 kWh battery pack offers a driving range of 320km. The 3.3kW home charger can replenish the battery pack in just under 11 hours. There is also an option of DC fast charging, using which the EV can be charged from 10-80% in under an hour.

Tata Tigor EV

Starting Price: Rs 12.49 lakh

The first and only electric sedan on this list is the Tigor EV. Prices for the Tigor EV start at Rs 12.49 lakh and go up to Rs 13.75 lakh.
