2027 Toyota Fortuner spotted on a road test in Thailand

The Toyota Fortuner is about to get a generational update next year. The next-gen model has been spotted on numerous occasions this year. Its first spy shots surfaced in February 2026. More recently, the SUV was photographed while undergoing a road test in Thailand. The test mule was draped in heavy camouflage.

Next-gen Toyota Fortuner: What do the spy shots suggest?

Previous test mules of the upcoming Fortuner used temporary lighting elements for its tail lamps. The newly spotted unit appears to have production-spec lighting at the back and the front. Since the mule was completely covered in camouflage, the spy shots were able to capture only small segments of these lighting designs. Other details like the grille, bumper, and tailgate remained completely hidden as well.

The SUV is expected to get a wider grille compared to its current-gen counterpart. The LED headlamps flanking this grille will be sleek and sharp. These headlamps could get integrated eyebrow-style LED DRLs. The front fascia appears more muscular and upright. The shark fin antenna is mounted on the roof. The camera and radar equipment hint towards an ADAS suite on board.

Inside, the next-gen Fortuner will borrow several design cues from the newly launched Toyota Hilux. The latter packs a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. There’s wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on board. The Fortuner will get creature comforts like ventilated front seats, cruise control, an 11-speaker JBL sound system, wireless charging, and more. On the safety front, it will get features like 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Brake Assist (BA), Hill Assist Control (HAC), Traction Control System (TRS), seat belt reminders for all passengers, ISOFIX anchorages, and more.

No changes will be made under the hood of the 2027 Fortuner. It will continue to be offered in 2 engine options. The 2.8-litre diesel engine generates a maximum power output of 201hp and 500Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. It is available in 2WD and 4WD configurations, and takes the SUV from 0-100km/h in under 10 seconds.

Meanwhile, the 2.7-litre petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 164hp and 245Nm of torque. It can only be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The petrol variants of the Fortuner are not available in a 4WD configuration. The automaker pulled the option of a manual gearbox from this powertrain last year.

Final Thoughts

Prices for the current-gen Fortuner start at Rs 34.76 lakh and go up to Rs 50.46 lakh. The next-gen model will enter the market in the first quarter of 2027. It will command a sizeable premium over the current model. Upon launch, it will continue to rival the Skoda Kodiaq, Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1, and Citroen C5 Aircross in India.
