7-seater Nissan Tekton spotted testing in India

Nissan Tekton is about to get a 7-seat model soon. Test mules of the upcoming SUV have been spotted testing on Indian roads on multiple occasions in the last couple of months. The new spy shots reveal more details about the bigger SUV’s exterior. The new model appears to have a different lighting signature for its LED tail lamps. It remains to be seen whether the 7-seater version will be added to the Tekton’s existing lineup or launched under a new banner.

7-seater Nissan Tekton: Here’s everything we know so far

The newly surfaced spy shots of the 7-seater Tekton reveal an inverted L-shaped lighting pattern for the LED tail lamps. As opposed to the C-shaped units on the 5-seat model, these lighting elements extend downwards. The tail lamps are connected by a noticeably thicker segmented light bar. The rest of the rear section was covered with camouflage to hide any kind of branding.

The profile of the 7-seater Tekton is visibly longer than its 5-seat counterpart. The area behind the fuel lid immediately stands out due to the presence of the third seating row. Both SUVs will have the same wheelbase. For comparison, the 5-seater Tekton stands at dimensions of 4,348mm x 1,815mm x 1,674mm and has a 2,657mm wheelbase. It clears the ground by 212 mm.

The front fascia of the test mule was completely camouflaged apart from the LED headlamps. These headlamps look identical to the ones on the standard Tekton. It remains to be seen whether the larger model will receive any new changes to its grille, bumper, or bonnet.

Inside, the SUV will have a third seating row for 2 passengers. Other than that, its cabin and dashboard layout will remain unchanged. It will carry the 10.1-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display from the standard model. There will be wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity on board. Other features like natural voice commands, an ‘Infinity View’ panoramic sunroof, 6-way powered front seats with ventilation, an Arkamys 3D sound system, an air purifier with AQI display, dual-zone air conditioning, ambient lighting, and wireless charging with active cooling will also make the cut.

The 7-seat layout will likely be made available on the higher trims of the Tekton. There is a possibility that it may miss out on the 1-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine. However, it will get the 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine. This unit produces a maximum power output of 163hp and 280Nm of torque. It can be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed DCT. These transmissions offer a fuel economy of 17.8 and 18.5 km/l, accelerating the SUV from 0-100km/h in 9.51 and 9.89 seconds, respectively.

Final Thoughts

Prices for the 5-seat Nissan Tekton start at Rs 10.49 lakh and go up to Rs 18.59 lakh. The larger SUV will demand a premium over these prices. We expect its prices to start at Rs 13 lakh. Upon launch, it will rival the Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, Kia Carens Clavis, and Mahindra XUV 7X0.
