Next-gen Tata Nexon spied again, interior leaked

The 2nd-generation Tata Nexon is set to hit the market next year. The first test mule of the compact SUV was spotted on a road test near Pune last week. Now, new spy shots have emerged, giving a glimpse of the next-gen model’s interior layout and instrumentation. The new images were also taken near Pune, Maharashtra. The mule was completely camouflaged.

2027 Tata Nexon: What do the new spy shots suggest?

The trims, controls, and other panels of the dashboard and centre console were plucked out from the most recent test mule of the next-gen Tata Nexon. This leads us to believe that there will be significant work on the interior setup. The infotainment system, steering wheel, and gearbox of the test mule look similar to their current-gen counterparts. Since the SUV is still in its developmental phase, there is a possibility of these elements getting swapped out later.

The interior setup does not reveal anything about new features. The current-gen Nexon comes with a 12.3-inch Harman touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 360-degree camera, a 9-speaker JBL sound system, a voice-controlled panoramic sunroof, a Blind View Monitor, wireless charging, ventilated front seating, 6 airbags, ADAS, and more. These features will make it to the next-gen model as well.

On the exterior, the 2nd-gen Nexon will get some significant rework. The C-pillar on the test mules looks more prominent and upright. This will lead to more headroom for rear passengers. The A-pillar has a more angular look. The rear door design has been changed as well. The windscreen at the back appears more upright. The tailgate and bumper will get revisions too. Not much is known about the front fascia, but we expect the new model to get an updated grille, bumper, LED headlamps, and DRLs.

Current-gen Nexon

No changes are expected under the hood of the 2nd-gen Nexon. It will continue to be offered in 3 powertrain options. The 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 120hp and 170Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre diesel engine produces a maximum power output of 115hp and 260Nm of torque. These engines can be mated to a 6-speed manual or AMT gearbox. Lastly, the 1.2-litre CNG model produces a maximum power output of 100hp and 170Nm of torque. It can only be paired with a manual transmission. The Nexon CNG has a boot space capacity of 321 litres, a fuel tank capacity of 60 litres, and a mileage of 24 km/kg.

Final Thoughts

The current lineup of the Nexon is priced between Rs 7.39 lakh and Rs 14.40 lakh. The next-gen model will demand a premium. It will continue to rival the Hyundai VenueKia SonetRenault KigerNissan MagniteMahindra XUV300, and Maruti Suzuki Brezza in India. Tata Motors is currently undergoing a rebrand to ‘TATA.CARS’ and is overhauling its sales and service network.
