Mahindra XEV 9S and 9e now offered with BaaS

Mahindra has expanded its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme to the XEV 9S and 9e. Along with the newly launched BE 6 Sporteq, the BaaS programme now covers the automaker’s entire Electric Origin SUV range. Prices for the Mahindra XEV 9S BaaS range start at Rs 12.65 lakh. Meanwhile, the XEV 9e BaaS model fetches Rs 13.90 lakh. The battery rental price is set at Rs 3.75/km for all three Electric Origin SUVs.

Mahindra XEV 9S and 9e: Now more affordable under BaaS

Prices for the standard Mahindra XEV 9S and 9e lineup start at Rs 20.65 lakh and Rs 21.90 lakh, respectively. The introduction of the BaaS models brings down the starting price of the two SUVs by Rs 8 lakh. Meanwhile, the newly launched BE 6 Sporteq costs Rs 11.45 lakh under BaaS, while the prices for the standard model start at Rs 19.45 lakh. Mahindra has confirmed that the BaaS model will apply to all variants of the three SUVs. Only the prices of the entry-level variants have been revealed so far.

The battery EMI for the three EVs starts at Rs 6,975. The Rs 3.75/km figure is based on a 60km/day usage. There is a specific down payment involved, and the figure excludes charging, maintenance, and repair costs. Bigger battery packs will demand a higher EMI. Mahindra has also clarified that the BaaS prices are exclusive of charger cost, road tax, insurance, TCS, and other applicable statutory levies.

The XEV 9e comes in 2 battery pack options – 59kWh and 79kWh. The 59kWh variants have a 522km driving range and put out 230hp and 380Nm. Meanwhile, the 79kWh variants can go up to 656km on a full charge while generating a maximum power output of 280hp and 380Nm of torque.

The Mahindra XEV 9S gets the 59kWh and 70kWh battery pack options from the XEV 9e, along with an additional mid-spec 70kWh unit. The 70kWh variants generate a maximum power output of 240hp and 380Nm of torque. They can go up to 600km on a full charge. The 79kWh battery pack on the XEV 9S offers an improved driving range of 679km. All variants of the two SUVs are powered by a rear-mounted single electric motor. They come with 7.2kW and 11.2kW AC wall chargers. Mahindra also offers a 13A (up to 3.2kW) AC home charger that’s compatible with the household 3-pin 16A socket.

Final Thoughts

The introduction of the BaaS programme for Mahindra XEV 9S and 9e will see an increase in sales. The XEV 9S rivals the Kia Carens Clavis EV, Tata Harrier EV, and BYD eMax 7, while the XEV 9e goes up against BYD Atto 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
