Kia Syros EV spotted on a TVC shoot, launch imminent

The Kia Syros EV is set to launch in India soon. Ahead of its release, the electric SUV was spotted on a TVC shoot. Hence, the unit was completely undisguised. The all-electric Syros is a direct ICE-to-EV conversion model, the second in Kia India’s catalogue. It doesn’t stray too far from the design of its ICE sibling. Kia is planning to launch the EV in the next two weeks.

Kia Syros EV: Everything we know so far

The Kia Syros EV looks almost identical to its ICE counterpart since it is a direct conversion model, but it gets a few EV-exclusive changes. Up front, it gets a sleeker grille and a slightly reworked bumper. The LED headlamp and DRL arrangement remains unchanged. The only distinguishing factor along the sides is a new design for the 17-inch alloy wheels. The EV could get motorised door handles. The electric Syros carries forward the rear section of its ICE sibling, but gets exclusive ‘EV’ badging.

The spy shots suggest that the Syros EV will retain the interior setup of the ICE model. It’ll sport a dual-tone colour theme. The steering wheel will have a three-spoke design. The dashboard will house twin 12.3-inch displays for the touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster, along with a 5-inch climate control system. Other features like a panoramic sunroof, front and rear dashcams, an 8-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, a 4-way powered front seat, seat ventilation, reclining and sliding second-row seats, 64-colour ambient mood lighting, and wireless charging are expected to make the cut. The SUV will also rock EV-exclusive features like Vehicle to Load (V2L) and Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) charging.

Rumours suggest that the Kia Syros EV will share its battery packs with the Carens Clavis EV. The latter comes in 2 battery pack options – 42kWh (404km range, ARAI) and 51.4kWh (490km range, ARAI). The electric motor is mounted on the front axle and produces a maximum power output of 135hp on the 42kWh variants and 171hp on the 51.4kWh variants. The torque remains the same on all variants – 255Nm.

The ICE Syros is also offered in 2 engine options. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 120hp and 172Nm of torque. It can be linked to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre diesel engine produces a maximum power output of 115hp and 250Nm of torque. This engine also gets 2 transmission options – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter gearbox.

Final Thoughts

We expect the prices for the Kia Syros EV to start at Rs 12 lakh and go up to Rs 20 lakh. Upon launch, it will rival the likes of the Tata Nexon EVTata Punch EV, and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV in India. More details about the EV are expected to be made public as we get closer to launch.
