Tata Punch facelift: Teaser breakdown

The teaser video for the new Tata Punch gives a close look at the SUV’s front and rear sections. The design of the front bumper has been overhauled. It features a wide dam with an all-black look. This dam is surrounded by a silver frame. There are two air intake units right above this section. The SUV takes some design inspiration from its all-electric counterpart. The vertically-stacked LED headlamps are similar to the ones on the Punch EV. A glossy black trim runs across the bonnet of the SUV, connecting the two LED DRLs. Unlike the Punch EV, the ICE model does not get a front light bar.

The Punch facelift will retain its profile from the outgoing model, but the design of its alloy wheels will be refreshed. The teaser reveals connected LED tail lamps. The light bar and tail lamps are surrounded by a plastic trim. There is ‘PUNCH’ lettering on the tailgate, just below the new Tata logo. The ‘iTurbo’ badging at the back confirms a turbo-petrol powertrain.

The teaser video gives a brief look at the Punch facelift’s interior. It confirms a free-floating touchscreen infotainment system, which appears to be larger than the one on the current model. The digital instrument cluster gets a new look, too. More details about this setup will be revealed as we get closer to launch. The camera cutout on the air intake section up front points towards a Surround View Monitor on the SUV. Other features like a voice-assisted electric sunroof, rear AC vents, an engine start/stop button, and fast USB charging are also expected to make the cut.

As mentioned earlier, the Tata Punch will get a new turbo-petrol engine. Tata has not shared the output numbers of this engine yet. The SUV will also carry forward the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine from the current model. This engine generates a maximum power output of 86hp and 113Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox. In a CNG configuration, the output numbers of this engine drop down to 73hp and 103Nm. The CNG model comes with a manual transmission only.
