Tata Nexon CNG to be offered with two gearbox options

The CNG version of the Tata Nexon SUV is set to launch next month. The compact SUV was first showcased in a CNG guise back in January at the Bharat Mobility Show. The model showcased at the Bharat Mobility Show rocked a traditional manual transmission. It is expected that the production-spec Tata Nexon CNG will come with two gearbox options – Manual and AMT. Prices for the SUV will be revealed upon launch.

Tata Nexon CNG: What to expect?

Apart from the iCNG branding, the Tata Nexon CNG will not sport any new cosmetic changes over its petrol and diesel counterparts. The SUV will be identical to the facelifted model that was launched in September 2023. The front fascia of the Nexon facelift is highlighted by a slim grille which is flanked on either side by LED DRLs. The LED headlamps are housed on the bumper.

The Tata Nexon CNG will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged engine. In a petrol guise, this engine generates a maximum power output of 120hp and 170Nm of torque. It will be the only turbocharged CNG engine on an SUV in India. Buyers will get the option to link this engine to a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox.

The dashboard layout and instrumentation of the Tata Nexon CNG will be identical to its petrol and diesel counterparts. The SUV features a 12.3-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. It also gets the new two-spoke design for the steering wheel. The Tata logo on this steering wheel is illuminated. Other features include connected car tech, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, voice-assisted sunroof, touch controls for the HVAC, and more.

Like other Tata CNG offerings, the Nexon CNG will sport a split cylinder setup for the gas tank. This will free up much-needed boot space which would otherwise have been taken up by one giant tank. The Tata Nexon CNG will also get a range of CNG-specific safety features.

Conclusion

Tata will launch the Curvv ICE crossover on September 2. This will be followed by the launch of the Nexon CNG. We expect the CNG model to be priced between Rs 13-14 lakh. Upon launch, it will rival the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG, Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG, and Hyundai Exter CNG.
