Tata Curvv EV launch pushed to festive season amid production delay

Key Highlights

  • The production of the Tata Curvv EV has been pushed to June.
  • This has caused the automaker to reschedule its release.
  • The crossover is now expected to launch in late September/early October.

Initially expected to be launched in mid-2024, the Tata Curvv EV will now be released in the festive period. Reports suggest that this is due to a delay in production of the EV, which has now been pushed to June. The ICE version of the Curvv was showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo earlier this year. Since then, its EV version has been spotted testing on multiple occasions.

Tata Curvv EV: The trendsetting crossover?

The Tata Curvv EV is a crossover version of the Nexon EV. Its front fascia looks very similar to its SUV counterpart, featuring a sleek LED light bar running across the grille and edgy cutouts for the LED headlamps. The light bar seamlessly merges into the DRLs, just like the Nexon.

The differences arise in the profile of the two cars. The Tata Curvv EV looks like a coupe-SUV crossover while the Nexon is an undeniable SUV. The sloping roofline is the Curvv’s biggest differentiating aspect. The Curvv stands at dimensions of 4,308mm x 1,810mm x 1,630mm. It has a wheelbase that spans 2,560mm. The ICE version of the crossover has a boot space capacity of 422 litres.

Not much is known about the instrumentation and dashboard layout of the Tata Curvv EV. We wouldn’t be surprised if it follows the design language laid out by the Nexon EV facelift. The automaker says that the Curvv’s interior ‘integrates state-of-the-art onboard technologies and Human Machine Interface’.

The powertrain specs of the Tata Curvv EV will be similar to the Nexon. The crossover will be available in MR and LR variants like its SUV counterpart. The LR variants will have a driving range of up to 500 km. The ICE variant of the crossover will be powered by the 1.5-litre CRAIL diesel engine which produces a maximum power output of 113hp and 260Nm of torque. Tata may also add the 125hp, 225Nm producing 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine to the lineup.

Conclusion

Prices for the ICE Tata Curvv crossover are expected to start at Rs 11 lakh. The EV models will be launched first and cost a significant premium. The release date for the ICE models could be pushed to 2025. Upon launch, the crossover will primarily rival the Citroen C3X along with other midsize SUVs like Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun.
