Renault Kwid facelift spotted testing

Renault India is currently in the process of refreshing its product catalogue in the country. Back in July, the automaker launched the facelift model of the Triber MPV. This was followed by the launch of the Kiger SUV facelift in August. Now, the facelifted version of the Renault Kwid hatchback has been spotted testing on Indian roads. The test mule was draped in camouflage, but it gave away some details about the exterior styling and interior layout and instrumentation. The facelifted hatchback is expected to launch by the end of the year.

Renault Kwid facelift: What do the spy shots suggest?

The Kwid hatchback will take design inspiration from the upcoming Duster SUV. The Y-shaped LED DRLs will be the big highlight on the front fascia. The halogen headlamps will have a pentagonal pattern. A closed-off front grille is expected on the hatchback. The bumper design will be tweaked, too. Along the sides, there’s thick body cladding, and the wheel arches are squared off. The design of the steel wheels is inspired by the Dacia Spring EV. At the back, the hatchback flaunts Y-shaped tail lamps connected by a thick trim.

Inside, the Kwid hatchback will get a larger display for the infotainment system. Rumours suggest that this will be a 10-inch display. A new 7-inch instrument cluster is also expected on the facelifted model. The steering wheel will get a new design. The dashboard layout may get tweaked, too. It wouldn’t be surprising if the hatchback borrows styling elements from the interior layout of the Dacia Spring EV. The facelift will very likely offer 6 airbags as a standard feature.

No changes are expected under the hood. The Kwid facelift will retain the powertrain of the current model. The 1.0-litre petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 68hp and 92.5Nm of torque. This engine can be mated to a 5-speed manual or automatic gearbox. The hatchback is not available with a factory-fitted CNG kit. Instead, buyers can get a retrofit installed at the dealership level. The facelifted model is not expected to get an all-electric version any time soon.

Last month, Renault launched the 10th Anniversary edition of the Kwid in India. Priced at Rs 5.15 lakh, this model is based on the mid-spec Techno trim of the hatchback. It gets yellow accents on the grille and yellow decals on the doors and the C-pillar. Inside, it features yellow accents on the steering wheel, seats, door panels, and around the touchscreen infotainment system. In terms of feature editions, the special edition gets puddle lamps and illuminated scuff plates.

Final Thoughts

Prices for the current Kwid model start at Rs 4.30 lakh and go up to Rs 5.88 lakh. The facelifted model will demand a small premium. We expect its prices to start at Rs 4.50 lakh. Upon launch, it will rival the  Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and S Presso in India.
