Renault Bigster spotted testing in India ahead of launch

As Renault is gearing up to launch the Duster next week, it is simultaneously road testing the 7-seater version of the SUV. Dubbed Renault Bigster, the SUV was recently spotted testing in Tamil Nadu. It is expected to follow the Duster as a part of Renault’s comeback strategy in India. The newest test mule of the SUV gives away key details about its exterior, particularly the front fascia.

Renault Bigster: What to expect?

The test mule of the Renault Bigster was draped in heavy camouflage, but the cutouts along the front fascia revealed the shape of the LED headlamps and DRLs. The two headlamps flank either side of the shut-off grille. They are integrated with eyebrow-style LED DRLs. The grille will likely carry a glossy trim and the ‘BIGSTER’ lettering. The air dam at the bottom will be surrounded by a silver frame. The profile of the SUV reveals a rear overhang where the third-row seats are supposed to be. It is likely to rock 19-inch alloy wheels. The rear section is highlighted by an upright tailgate and vertically-aligned LED tail lamps.

Not much is known about the interior of the Renault Bigster so far. We expect it to be packed with premium features befitting a big SUV. It could come with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, just like the Duster SUV. There will be support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on board. Other features like dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, and Level 2 ADAS are also expected to make the cut.

The Bigster will share its powertrain with the Renault Duster. However, it will not get the 100hp, 160Nm producing entry-level 1.0-litre petrol engine. Instead, it will come with a 1.8-litre strong hybrid petrol engine and a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine. The former generates a maximum power output of 160hp and 172Nm. This engine will be added to Duster’s lineup by Diwali. The 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 163hp and 280Nm torque. It can be linked to a 6-speed manual or DCT gearbox.

Final Thoughts

Apart from the Bigster, Renault also has a sub-4m SUV for the Indian market in the pipeline. It recently unveiled the concept model for the SUV overseas. Named the ‘Bridger’, the compact SUV will arrive in India in late 2026 or early 2027. Meanwhile, the Bigster is expected to get a summer 2026 launch. Upon entering the Indian market, it will rival the likes of the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV 7XO, Hyundai Alcazar, and MG Hector.
