Nissan Motor India crosses 1.2 million units export landmark

Nissan Motor has announced that it has successfully exported 1.2 million units from India to overseas markets. The Magnite SUV is the only mass-market Nissan offering in India. The X-Trail is imported into the country as a Completely Built Up (CBU) unit. Despite its limited portfolio in the country, India is a big international manufacturing hub for Nissan. The 1.2 millionth unit shipped from the Kamarajar port in Tamil Nadu was a Nissan Magnite SUV headed to the Gulf markets.

Nissan Motor India: New milestone unlocked

Nissan’s biggest exports out of India include the Sunny sedan, Magnite SUV, Kicks SUV, and Micra hatchback. Out of these models, only the Magnite is sold in India. It is also the main export out of Indian, manufactured in both left-hand and right-hand configurations. As of now, Nissan’s exports from India reach up to 65 markets in regions like the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.

The made-in-India Nissan Magnite received a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP in July 2025. It scored 32.31 points out of a possible 34 in the Adult Occupant Protection test. Upon frontal collision, it showed good protection to the driver’s head, neck, chest, thighs, and feet. The legs were adequately protected. In the Child Occupant Protection test, the SUV garnered 33.64 points out of a possible 49. Its child restraint system was tested with dummies for 18-month and 3-year-old children.

The India-spec Magnite is packed with features like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, 3D sound by Arkamys, cruise control, a global smart key with remote engine start, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, and more. Buyers can also opt for a unique tech pack with features like a dashcam, wireless charger, premium speakers (JBL powered by Harman), puddle lamps and LED scuff plates.

Final Thoughts

Nissan Motor India is currently gearing up to launch another mass-market SUV in India. This time, it will be a midsize SUV in the 4.2m to 4.4m range. Dubbed the ‘Tekton’, it will be based on the upcoming Renault Duster. The Duster will make its debut on January 26, 2025. The Tektone is expected to be unveiled around the same time. Upon launch, it will lock horns with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, and other midsize SUVs in the country.
