Maruti Suzuki Swift: 30 lakh units sold in India

First launched in 2005, the Maruti Suzuki Swift introduced new features like climate control, airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS) to the segment. Its design was inspired by the Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle. Across the globe, the Swift hatchback has racked up 6.5 million sales since its introduction.

It took the Maruti Suzuki Swift 8 years to cross the 1 million sales landmark. The next million sales were completed by 2018, taking just 5 years. It took Maruti Suzuki 6 years to sell the last million units of the Swift. The automaker has received a fresh boost in sales due to the introduction of the 4th-gen model of the hatchback.

Powering the 4th-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift is the new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z12E engine that produces a maximum power output of 80hp and 112Nm of torque. This engine can be mated to a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox. Unlike its Japanese counterpart, the Swift is not available with mild-hybrid tech in India. The hatchback offers a mileage of up to 25.75kmpl.

Commenting on the momentous occasion, Mr Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “The Swift has been more than just a car to the millions who have owned it – it has been a symbol of fun, freedom and exhilaration. With each new generation, the Swift has continued to raise the bar, offering cutting-edge technology, contemporary style, and that unmistakable ‘Swift DNA’ which continues to captivate customers. This accomplishment fills us with immense gratitude, and we are thankful to all Swift owners across the country.”
