Maruti Suzuki Dzire: Quietly leading the pack

Maruti Suzuki Dzire is able to sustain its success at a time when SUVs command 66% of the passenger vehicle market share. It has helped Maruti Suzuki grow its sedan market share from 45.8% in FY2017 to 57.2% today. While compact and midsize SUVs may be dictating the current trends, the Dzire’s sales numbers prove that buyers seek reliability over everything else.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire is powered by the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, Z12E petrol engine. This engine produces a maximum power output of 80hp and 112Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox. With a manual transmission, this engine offers a mileage of 24.79kmpl. Automatic variants of the sedan offer a fuel economy of 25.71kmpl.

Maruti also recorded its highest-ever sales across its catalogue this fiscal year. The automaker achieved total sales of 24,22,713 units, including 18,61,704 domestic sales and exports of 4,47,774 units. Its compact offerings (Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, and Wagon R) accounted for 8,08,102 sales. Meanwhile, the mini offerings (Alto and S-Presso) sold 1,12,291 units. The SUVs (Brezza, Ertiga, e Vitara, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, Victoris, and XL6) contributed 7,60,987 units to total sales. Maruti Suzuki also recorded the highest-ever exports in FY2026, reaching 4.47 lakh units.

Mr Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “In the current global environment where trade conditions remain challenging, exports assume a crucial role in supporting economic resilience of a country. Our push for exports reflects our continued commitment to national priorities. Exports of 4.47 lakh vehicles, with a growth of over 34 per cent is our responsible contribution towards this mission. With exports to over 100 countries and a portfolio of 18 models, the widest among all OEMs in India*, we are well positioned to cater to diverse customer needs across markets. This geographical diversification is also enabling the company to effectively manage market risks. Aligned with the vision of ‘Make in India, Make for the World’, we remain committed to make continued progress in exports.”
