Maruti Suzuki Dzire: One of the popular sedans in India

Maruti Suzuki Dzire was launched in India in March 2008. The first million units of the sedan were produced by April 2015. The next million were manufactured by June 2019. It took the automaker 5 years to produce the last million units. The 2nd-gen model of the sedan was introduced in 2012, while the 3rd and 4th-gen models were launched in 2017 and 2024 respectively.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire has been India’s bestselling sedan since its launch. It is the 4th most sold vehicle in India overall. 1 in every 2 compact sedans sold in India since 2008 has been a Dzire. Apart from local sales, Dzire also makes up a big portion of Maruti Suzuki’s exports. It is among the top 5 export models from the automaker. Since October 2008, 2.6 lakh units of the Dzire have been exported to 48 countries. In FY 2023-24, it was the second-highest exported model by Maruti Suzuki.

Powering the 4th-gen Maruti Suzuki Dzire is the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, Z12E petrol engine. This engine also powers the current-gen Swift hatchback. It produces a maximum power output of 80hp and 112Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox. With a manual transmission, this engine offers a mileage of 24.79kmpl. Automatic variants of the sedan offer a fuel economy of 25.71kmpl.

Speaking on the milestone, Mr Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “We are deeply grateful to our customers for their continued trust, which has been a key to achieving the milestone of 3 million production for the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. Their feedback and support inspire us to continuously improve and innovate, ensuring the Dzire exceeds their expectations. The latest Dzire, launched last month, exemplifies this commitment, setting a new benchmark with its modern design, advanced features, and exceptional fuel efficiency. Over the years, Dzire has significantly contributed to our sales, making us the sedan segment leader for 16 consecutive years*. I also extend my heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated team members and value chain partners for their hard work and commitment.”
