Key Highlights
The highly anticipated 5-door Thar has been in the pipeline for Mahindra for more than two years. It has been spotted testing in India on multiple occasions over the years. Recently, it was revealed that the lifestyle SUV would be dubbed the Mahindra Thar Armada. With a name in place, a launch is on the cards for the SUV in the coming months.

The recent test modules of the Mahindra Thar Armada were spotted with a dual-pane sunroof. It is expected that only the top-end variants will have this feature. The mid-spec variants of the SUV will likely feature a single-pane sunroof. Mahindra Thar will become the only lifestyle SUV in India to sport this feature.
Other exterior highlights on the Mahindra Thar Armada include a new grille with 5 vertical slats and a horizontal bar in the middle, redesigned LED projector headlamps and DRLs, and LED fog lamps. The SUV retains the boxy design of its 3-door counterpart. In profile, the Thar Armada may sport a new design for the alloy wheels. Apart from the two additional doors, it will also receive new windows at the back.
Talking about the features, the Mahindra Thar Armada will come with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system. There are quick-action physical buttons right below this infotainment system. The new steering wheel on the Thar looks inspired by the Scorpio N and XUV700. In a first for the segment, the Thar Armada will feature a Level 2 ADAS package with functions like blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, forward collision avoidance, and more.
The Mahindra Thar Armada will retain the 2 engine options – a 2.2-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre petrol engine. It will also come in a 2WD configuration like its 3-door counterpart. However, it won’t get the 1.5-litre diesel engine found in the entry-level variants of the 3-door Thar. The option of an automatic transmission will be reserved solely for 4×4 variants.

Mahindra could announce the Thar Armada at its Independence Day event in August. Some dealerships have unofficially started accepting bookings for the SUV. The 3-door Thar is currently priced at Rs 13.58 lakh. Expect the prices for the Thar Armada to start at Rs 16 lakh. Upon launch, it will rival the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha.
