Mahindra Thar Armada: What’s on the cards?

Initially, Mahindra had planned to roll out 2,500 units of the 5-door Thar per month. Sensing a high demand for the SUV, the automaker has boosted the production to 6,000 units per month. This means Mahindra could produce up to 72,000 units of the 5-door Thar annually.

Mahindra Thar Armada will get a few design tweaks over its 3-door sibling. Recent spy shots of the SUV suggest the presence of a wider grille with a new design. This 5-slat grille may rock a new pattern. The design for the LED projector headlamps, DRLs, and fog lamps has also been tweaked. Apart from the two additional doors, the SUV’s profile will not sport any major changes. Mahindra could change the design of the alloy wheels.

The new Mahindra Thar Armada will be decked with new features. The SUV will get a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Leaked shots of the interior of the SUV show an array of physical controls below the infotainment system. As far as premium features go, the Thar Armada will rock an ADAS package and an electric sunroof. The Level 2 ADAS package will have features like blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, forward collision avoidance, and more.

The Mahindra Thar Armada will retain the 2 engine options – a 2.2-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre petrol engine. It will also come in a 2WD configuration like its 3-door counterpart. However, it won’t get the 1.5-litre diesel engine found in the entry-level variants of the 3-door Thar. The option of an automatic transmission will be reserved solely for 4×4 variants.

Conclusion

Prices for the 3-door Thar start at Rs 11.35 lakh and go up to Rs 17.60 lakh. The 5-door Thar Armada will demand a hefty premium over its 3-door sibling. According to certain reports, some Mahindra dealerships have started accepting bookings unofficially. Upon launch, Mahindra Thar Armada will rival Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha.
