Kia Carens: GNCAP crash test results explained

In the Adult Occupant Protection test, Kia Carens scored 22.07 points out of a possible 34. Upon frontal impact, the Global NCAP observed that the protection offered to the driver’s and passenger’s heads was good. The protection offered to the driver’s neck was weak but the passenger’s neck showed good protection. The chest protection was good for the passenger and adequate for the driver. However, the driver’s and passenger’s knees showed marginal protection.

Upon side impact, the protection to the head, chest, and abdomen, was good. The side pole test was not performed for Kia Carens due to its failure to meet the necessary requirements. The MPV offers 6 airbags and seatbelt reminders for the first and second rows as standard. Overall, the Carens earned a 3-star rating in the Adult Occupant Protection test.

In the Child Occupant Protection test, Kia Carens scored 41 points out of a possible 49, earning 5 stars. The rear-facing child seat for a 3-year-old was installed using i-size anchorages and a support leg. Upon frontal impact, it prevented head exposure and offered full protection. The rear-facing child seat for an 18-month-old was also installed using i-size anchorages and a support leg. It was able to prevent head exposure as well.

Alejandro Furas, Global NCAP Secretary General said, “There has been an improvement in Kia’s rating for the Carens since our original test when the model scored a zero rating for adult occupant protection. However, we were expecting a better performance in the retest given the Carens is fitted with six airbags as standard.”
