Chinese automaker, BYD, has finally launched the Seal EV in India at a starting price of Rs 41 lakh. The electric sedan was first showcased in India at Auto Expo 2023. It joins the Atto 3 electric SUV and e6 electric MPV in BYD’s India portfolio. BYD Seal is available in three variants and two battery sizes – Dynamic (61.44 kWh), Premium (82.56 kWh), and Performance (82.56 kWh).

BYD Seal exudes a very clean and streamlined look. Its front fascia is highlighted by split LED headlamps and boomerang-shaped LED DRLs. The tail lamps along the rear are connected by an LED light bar. The side look of the sedan is marked by a coupe-like sloping roofline. It rests on 19-inch alloy wheels with a unique ‘petal’ design. The Seal stands at dimensions of 4,800mm x 1,875mm x 1,460mm and has a wheelbase of 2,920mm. It has a boot space capacity of 400 litres. The ‘frunk’ can hold an additional 53 litres of cargo.
Inside, BYD Seal gets a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment display along with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The driver’s cockpit is also equipped with a head-up display. The scroll wheel on the centre console can be used to switch to different drive modes. The AC vents on the sedan are beautifully placed around the infotainment system. In terms of features, the Seal gets two wireless charging pads, a heated windscreen, dual zone AC, heated and cooled front seats, and more. The sedan scored a 5-star rating from the Euro NCAP with safety features like 10 airbags, ABS, 360-degree camera, hill hold assist, automatic wipers, and an ADAS package.
The entry-level Dynamic variant is available with the smaller 61.44kWh battery pack. The Premium and Performance trims make use of the larger 82.56kWh battery pack. These variants are also available in an All Wheel Drive configuration. The 61.44kWh battery pack offers a driving range of 510km (NEDC cycle). Meanwhile, the 82.56kWh battery pack can power the electric sedan up to 650km (NEDC cycle).
Powering the Dynamic variant of BYD Seal is a rear-mounted single electric motor that produces a power output of 204hp and 310Nm of torque. The Premium and Performance trims produce a maximum power output of 312hp and 360Nm of torque in a single-motor RWD configuration. In an AWD setup, these variants put out 530hp and 670Nm.

BYD Seal is available in four colour options – Aurora White, Arctic Blue, Cosmos Black, and Atlantis Grey. The sedan can booked for a token amount of Rs 1.25 lakh. Buyers who book their model before the end of the month can get free perks like a 3kW portable charging box, free installation for the home charger, and 6 years of roadside assistance. In India, BYD Seal rivals the likes of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Volvo XC40 Recharge, and Kia EV6.
