Citroen Basalt X: What’s new?

Citroen Basalt X is one of the first offerings under the automaker’s ‘Shift into the New 2.0’ strategy. It will sit at the top of the Basalt lineup as the top-spec variant. Like its C3 counterpart, the Basalt X will come with new paint shades. It will also receive the special ‘X’ badging. No other exterior cosmetic changes are expected on the crossover.

The teasers dropped by Citroen suggest a new pattern for the Basalt X’s dashboard. The new dashboard, along with the AC vents, will have bronze accents. New colour themes will be introduced for the upholstery. The new crossover will also get new feature additions. The current Basalt is packed with features like a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, cruise control, wireless charging, contoured headrests, and additional storage underneath the centre console. Safety features include six airbags, ESC, TPMS, and a rear parking camera.

Things will remain the same under the hood as the Citroen Basalt X will continue to be offered in 2 engine options. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 110hp and 190Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox (where it produces 205Nm of torque). Meanwhile, the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine puts out 82hp and 115Nm. This engine can only be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Final Thoughts

Prices for the standard Basalt range start at Rs 8.32 lakh and go up to Rs 14.10 lakh. The Citroen Basalt X will demand a small premium over the top-spec variant. Upon launch, it will rival the Tata Curvv crossover along with the top offerings in the midsize SUV segment.
