2026 Mahindra Thar Roxx spotted testing

The Mahindra Thar Roxx has been spotted on multiple road tests recently. The 5-door lifestyle SUV was launched in August 2024, so it isn’t due for a mid-cycle refresh until 2027. However, Mahindra could be testing a mild update that will come into effect in 2026. Rumours suggest that the Thar Roxx could be getting the 1.5L diesel engine, which is currently missing from its powertrain options.

2026 Mahindra Thar Roxx: What to expect?

The Mahindra Thar Roxx test mule that surfaced in recent spy shots was completely camouflaged. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the model being tested will have design and cosmetic updates. The cutouts for the grille, headlamps, and tail lamps do not suggest any major changes or tweaks.

The big change is rumoured to come under the hood. The Thar Roxx could finally get the 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine from its 3-door sibling. This engine generates a maximum power output of 119hp and 300Nm of torque. Currently, the 5-door Thar comes with 2 engine options. The 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 174hp and 380Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the 2.2-litre diesel engine puts out 172hp and 370Nm. These engines can be mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. The rumoured 1.5L turbo diesel engine only comes with a manual transmission on the 3-door Thar. It remains to be seen whether Mahindra will add an automatic transmission option for it on the bigger model.

The current version of the Mahindra Thar Roxx is already decked with high-end features, so we don’t expect any updates on that front. Back in May, it received 4-channel Dolby Atmos support, becoming the first SUV in the world to offer this feature. The 9-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system on the SUV produces a 400W output. The dashboard flaunts a 10.2-inch free-floating infotainment system with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It is integrated with the ‘Ganna’ music streaming app.

Other features of the lifestyle SUV include ambient lighting, wireless charging, automatic climate control, a cooled glove box, a front armrest, a panoramic sunroof, a powered driver’s seat, and an ADAS package.

Final Thoughts

The 3-door Thar was refreshed with a facelift model. The automaker added 2 new exterior paint shades for the SUV – Tango Red and Battleship Grey. Its prices start at Rs 9.99 lakh and go up to Rs 16.99 lakh. Meanwhile, the Thar Roxx range starts at Rs 12.25 lakh and goes up to Rs 22.06 lakh. It rivals the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Jeep Gurkha in India.
