BMW X1 LWB: What’s on offer?

Being a stretched version of the BMW X1, the X1 LWB is 116mm longer, 11mm taller, and has a 110mm longer wheelbase than the former. It stands at dimensions of 4,616mm x 1,845mm x 1,641mm, with a 2,802mm wheelbase. Visually, it doesn’t stray too far from the X1. The front fascia of the LWB model features striking LED headlamps and DRLs and the iconic kidney grille. In profile, it looks more like a crossover. Its international-spec model comes with 19- and 20-inch alloy wheel options. The tailgate has a minimal design.

One of the biggest advantages of the LWB model is increased cabin space. Rear passengers get to have more legroom due to the longer wheelbase of the SUV. Compared to the 476-litre boot space capacity of the standard model, the X1 LWB has a 540-litre capacity.

The dashboard houses a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display. There’s wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support on board. Other features include automatic climate control, powered front seats, ventilated seating, digital entry, wireless charging, connected car tech, automatic parking assist, a powered tailgate, a Harmon Kardon sound system, and more.

BMW X1

No changes will be made under the hood of the SUV. The X1 LWB will retain the powertrain of the standard model. The latter comes in 2 engine options – 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol (sDrive 18i) and 2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel (sDrive 18d). These engines put out 136hp and 150hp, respectively.

The China-spec version of the SUV is powered by a 2-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. This engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It generates a maximum power output of 204hp and 300Nm of torque. There are RWD and AWD variants on offer. The former can go from 0-100km/h in 7.9 seconds, while the latter takes 7.7 seconds. The top speed of both versions is capped at 229km/h.

Final Thoughts

As mentioned earlier, the BMW X1 LWB will go on sale on August 21. It will be priced close to Rs 55 lakh. Upon launch, it will lock horns with the Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA. The standard X1 is priced between Rs 50.90 lakh and Rs 52.90 lakh.
