BMW i5 LWB launched in India at Rs 79.60 lakh

The BMW i5 has received a long-wheelbase model. It comes in a single eDrive35L M Sport variant priced at Rs 79.60 lakh. Its ‘First Edition’ will be made available to the first 99 customers only. It does not demand a premium over the standard variant. The i5 LWB will be manufactured at BMW’s Chennai plant. Bookings for the electric sedan have been open since August.

BMW i5 LWB: Everything you need to know

The BMW i5 stands at dimensions of 5,175mm x 2,156mm x 1,520mm and has a 3,105mm wheelbase. This makes it 115mm longer than the standard i5, with a wheelbase that’s larger by 110mm. The LWB model retains the i5 design language with its kidney grille, contour line lighting, and sculpted surfaces. It rests on 20-inch alloy wheels. At the back, it gets wraparound LED tail lamps. The C-pillar has ‘5’ badging.

Inside, the BMW i5 LWB gets a curved display comprising a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The infotainment system supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The EV also gets a panoramic glass roof, electrically adjustable front seats with ventilation, a four-zone climate control system, a 17-speaker B&W sound system, ambient lighting, and more. The rear seats have a dedicated centre armrest with two cup holders and wireless charging. On the safety front, the EV gets 8 airbags, TPMS, a 360-degree camera, remote parking, front and rear parking sensors, and ADAS.

The BMW i5 LWB is powered by a rear-mounted single electric motor. It generates a maximum power output of 268hp and 410Nm of torque. The electric sedan can go from 0-199km/h in 6.7 seconds. Its top speed is capped at 195km/h. The 81.6kWh battery pack offers a driving range of 669km (MIDC). It supports 160kW DC charging, going from 10% to 80% in just 33 minutes. There’s support for 11kW AC charging as well. The EV comes with a BMW Wallbox charger, with installation charges included in its asking price.

Final Thoughts

The standard i5 model also comes in a single M60 xDrive variant priced at Rs 1.20 crore. It is significantly pricier than its LWB counterpart because it is a CBU import. The i5 LWB primarily rivals the Lexus ES 500e in India.
