Volkswagen Golf

The new Volkswagen Golf was one of the best cars to be showcased at CES 2024. While the exterior of the car was covered under heavy camouflage, the automaker revealed some key details about its interior. The physical control buttons have been brought on the steering wheel and the car now features ID3 and ID7’s touchscreen infotainment system. However, the most important news from the Volkswagen camp was ChatGPT integration into its IDA voice assistant. Partnering with Cerence Inc., Volkswagen will bring AI tech to ID3, ID5, ID5, ID7, Tiguan, Passat, and Golf first. The AI-powered voice assistant will be more intuitive and conversational than its current version.

Honda Saloon and Space-Hub EVs

Saloon

Honda will completely revamp its approach to EVs and launch the 0 Series in Europe in 2026. The Japanese automaker gave us a taste of what’s to come by showcasing two of its upcoming EVs at CES 2024. Both EVs are currently concepts, but the Saloon is 90% close to its production-spec model.

Space-Hub

The Saloon embodies the ‘Thin, Light, and Wise’ approach that Honda has taken on its upcoming EV series. It is low-slung and sporty, with a spacious cabin. Its futuristic interior features an instrument panel with a human-machine interface (HMI) that offers a seamless and intuitive experience to the driver. The Space-Hub is a cross between an SUV and an MPV, offering flexible space inside. The Space-Hub EV is currently just a concept, with no word on its production development yet.

Kia PV Series

Debuting its PBV platform, Kia showcased five electric vans at CES 2024. The new PBV platform allows the installation of different modules on the vehicle, which can later be swapped out to reorient the purpose of the EV. The integrated rail system on the EV allows the individual to customise the vehicle according to their needs. The PV1 is the smallest out of the new EVs. Kia showcased it alongside three variants of the PV5 and the largest van in its catalogue, the PV7. The automaker will launch these EVs in a phased manner. Phase 1 will see the launch of several variants of PV5 like Basic, Van, High Roof, and Chassis Cab.

Afeela

Announced at CES 2023, Sony and Honda’s collaborative vehicle, Afeela, made an appearance at CES 2024. The sedan gets dual electric motors that can produce a maximum power output of 241hp. The 91kWh battery can charge at the rate of 150kW. DC charging is limited to 11kW. The Afeels is set to go into production next year, with a 2026 launch in the cards. It will feature an AI-driven ADAS package, a conversational voice assistant powered by Microsoft Azure, and new gaming and entertainment features.

Xpeng AeroHT eVTOL Flying Car

No CES event is complete without a flying car prototype showcase. This year, Chinese automaker Xpeng threw the gauntlet with its eVTOL prototype. Best described as a Lamborghini with wings, the eVTOL can fold in its propellor and function as a regular car. The propellors can be deployed at any time to go aerial. The automaker says the eVTOL will perform vertical take-offs and landings. Inside, the flying car’s cockpit can seat two people and features a square steering wheel and joystick for navigation. While Xpeng did not take it out for a spin at CES 2024, the eVTOL does look incredibly cool.
