All-electric Mercedes-Benz GLC launched at Rs 78.50 lakh

The Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric has gone on sale in India at Rs 78.50 lakh. The automaker has garnered over 1,000 bookings for the EV and won’t be taking any further orders until March 2027. The current batch of orders will be rolled out to customers in the coming days. The all-electric GLC serves as the entry-level electric SUV in Mercedes-Benz’s India portfolio. It is underpinned by a different platform than its ICE sibling.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric: What’s on offer?

The GLC EV has a bold front fascia that’s highlighted by a shut-off illuminated grille with 914 individual pixel-like lighting elements. These elements kick into action in different scenarios (parking, power on, power off, etc.) to create fun animations. The LED DRLs integrated into the headlamps get the automaker’s signature star design. This design language is implemented on the taillights as well.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC EV rests on 20-inch alloy wheels, thanks to the standard AMG styling package. This package also comprises customisations for the front and rear bumpers. There’s minimal body cladding along the sides to create a clean look for the SUV. The rear section sports a glossy trim that curves slightly into the profile. It houses the taillights and the illuminated Mercedes logo.

Inside, the GLC Electric gets a ginormous 39.1-inch ‘Hyperscreen’ that spans the entire dashboard. This is one entire panel instead of a segmented setup comprising fused displays. It can be customised with 11 preset themes. There are no physical controls on the dashboard or centre console. The cabin looks plush, thanks to the metal, wood, and leather detailing across the interior. There are 3 interior colour themes on offer – Black, Beech Brown, and Ivory Beige.

In terms of features and creature comforts, the SUV gets a 15-speaker Burmester 3D sound system, a panoramic sunroof with illuminated stars, powered-folding rear seats, massage and heating functions for the front seats, a powered tailgate, ambient lighting, 2 wireless chargers, and more. On the safety front, it gets 9 airbags, a 360-degree camera, auto parking assist, a Level 2 ADAS suite, and more features.

Powering the GLC Electric are two electric motors mounted on the front and rear axles. This setup generates a maximum power output of 490hp and 800Nm of torque. The 2-speed gearbox handles acceleration and efficiency. The SUV can go from 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds. The 94kWh battery pack offers a 711km (WLTP) driving range on a full charge. Each purchase comes with a 22kW AC home charger. The battery pack also supports 330kW DC charging. A quick 10-minute charge using a DC adapter can power it for 300km.

Final Thoughts

The Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric is priced Rs 1.50 lakh higher than its petrol counterpart. Compared to the diesel version, it demands a premium of 50,000. While it has no true rivals right now, it will lock horns with the upcoming BMW iX3.
