Tata Sierra EV debut slated for June 30

Tata Sierra EV is set to make its debut on June 30. The all-electric SUV was first showcased at Auto Expo 2020 as a concept model. Tata dropped a teaser for the production-spec model during the promotional campaign of its ICE counterpart last year. The Sierra EV will be manufactured alongside the ICE model at Tata’s production facility in Sanand, Gujarat.

Tata Sierra EV: Everything we know so far

Tata’s teaser for the Sierra EV last year revealed an identical design to the ICE model. Of course, the electric SUV gets EV-exclusive changes like a shut-off grille, charging port cutout, and ‘EV’ badging. The bumper of the Sierra EV has been reworked to stand apart from its ICE sibling. The two SUVs share the same profile, including the alloy wheel design. At the back, LED tail lamps are connected by a light bar. The Sierra EV will be based on the acti.ev+ architecture. This platform also underpins the Harrier EV.

Inside, the Tata Sierra EV will retain the layout of the ICE model. This means its dashboard will house a panoramic screen setup comprising 3 12.3-inch displays. These displays will cater to the instrument cluster, infotainment system, and co-passenger’s entertainment system. The EV will also get features like a Head Up Display, a 12-speaker JBL sound system with Dolby Atmos, a 6-way powered driver’s seat with memory function, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, birthday celebration mode, relax mode, and more.

Not much is known about the powertrain of the Sierra EV so far. Since it is based on the acti.ev+ platform, it may get the same battery pack options as the Harrier EV – 65kWh and 75kWh options. The 75kWh battery pack offers 622km MIDC-certified range (480-505km C75 range). Meanwhile, the 65kWh has an ARAI-certified range of 538km and a C75-tested range between 420-445km. The Sierra EV will come in RWD and AWD configurations. If it gets the same powertrain as the Harrier EV, its RWD variants will put out 238hp and 315Nm. The AWD variants will generate a maximum power output of 390hp and 594Nm of torque.

ICE Sierra

The ICE Sierra is available in 3 powertrain options. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated ‘Revotron’ petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 105hp and 145Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The 1.5-litre TGDI ‘Hyperion’ petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 158hp and 255Nm of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Lastly, the 1.5-litre ‘Kryojet’ diesel engine puts out 116hp. With a 6-speed manual transmission, it produces 260Nm torque. This output increases to 280Nm when the engine is linked to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Final Thoughts

The Sierra EV will be positioned between the Curvv and Harrier EVs in Tata’s electric portfolio. We expect it to be priced close to 19 lakh. Upon launch, it will rival the Hyundai Creta ElectricMaruti Suzuki e VitaraMahindra BE 6, and VinFast VF6.
