CNG models of Maruti Suzuki Swift, Baleno, and Dzire get AMT

Maruti Suzuki has added the option for an automated manual transmission on the CNG models of the Swift, Baleno, and Dzire. Prices for the Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG AMT start at Rs 7.92 lakh. Meanwhile, the Baleno and Dzire CNG AMT range starts at Rs 8.32 lakh and Rs 8.53 lakh, respectively. None of these CNG offerings, including the newly facelifted Baleno, come with an underbody CNG tank that made its debut on the Victoris SUV last year.

Here’s everything you need to know about the new CNG AMT offerings from Maruti Suzuki

Here are the prices and fuel economy of the three CNG AMT models.

All three CNG models are powered by Maruti’s 1.2-litre Z12 series 3-cylinder engine. It generates a maximum power output of 70hp and 102Nm of torque in CNG mode. The AMT variants offer better mileage than their MT counterparts. In a petrol configuration, this engine produces a maximum power output of 83hp and 112Nm of torque. The petrol engine can also be mated to a 5-speed manual or AMT.

 

As things stand, the Victoris and Brezza SUVs are the only Maruti Suzuki offerings to come with an underbody CNG tank. The Wagon R facelift was spotted on a road test recently with a similar setup. The underbody CNG tank frees up much-needed boot space. Tata Motors uses a split cylinder setup on its CNG cars to tackle the boot space issue. Interestingly, the Baleno facelift, which was launched earlier this month, did not receive an underbody tank for its CNG model.

However, when it comes to features, the Baleno facelift is one of the most decked hatchbacks in its price bracket. It flaunts a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and a MID instrument cluster. Other features include a Clarion sound system, ventilated front seats, a cooled wireless charging pad, and more.

However, the Level 2 ADAS suite is the biggest highlight of the hatchback. It comprises features like Advanced Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Prevention, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, High Beam Assist (HBA), Vehicle Sway Warning and Forward Collision Warning.

Final Thoughts

The option of an automated manual transmission will make these three CNG offerings more attractive to buyers. A boost in the sales of all three cars is expected for the coming months. Currently, Tata Altroz is the only car in this price bracket to come with a CNG AMT option.
