Volkswagen India has launched the Golf GTI in the country. The Volkswagen Golf GTI is a CBU (Completely Built-up Unit) import to India. This explains its high price tag of Rs 53 lakh. Bookings for the hatchback were opened on May 2. Volkswagen has already imported the first batch of Golf GTI, comprising 150 units. It plans on bringing another 100 units into the country, based on the demand.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI features the automaker’s signature Matrix LED headlamps up front. These headlamps are connected by a sleek bar of LED DRLs. A thin red strip runs right above the DRLs. The GTI lettering can be found on the grille in red. The front bumper is sportier than the regular model. It houses X-shaped LED fog lamps. Along the sides, the hatchback rests on dual-tone 18-inch alloy wheels. The GTI badging is present on the front doors. At the back, the LED headlamps are smoked out. They are not connected by a light bar. There are two exhaust tips on either end.
Inside, the Volkswagen Golf GTI gets a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The red ‘GTI’ stitching can be found on the front headrests. Other features include 30-colour ambient lighting, three-zone climate control, sunroof, wireless charging, paddle shifters, front seat heating, and more. Safety features include 7 airbags, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), a rearview camera, ISOFIX anchorages, and more. There is a Level 2 ADAS package onboard as well. This package consists of features like rear traffic alert, lane change assist, autonomous emergency brakes, and more.
Powering the Volkswagen Golf GTI is a 2-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine. This is the same engine that powers the newly launched Tiguan R Line. This engine produces a maximum power output of 265hp and 370Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The power generated is sent to all four wheels. The top speed of the hatchback is capped at 250km/h. It can go from 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds.
Mr Nitin Kohli, Brand Director, Volkswagen India, said, “Bringing the Golf GTI to India is more than just a product launch — it’s the extension of a legacy. Indian customers have evolved into performance lovers who also value heritage, design, and technology. The GTI brings all of that in one legendary package representing the spirit of Volkswagen — innovation, driving pleasure, dynamic performance and sportiness.”
