Tata Punch facelift awarded a 5-star safety rating by BNCAP

Bharat NCAP has awarded a 5-star safety rating to the newly launched Tata Punch facelift. The SUV hit the market last week at a starting price of Rs 5.59 lakh. Its safety rating was revealed by Tata Motors at the time of launch. Now, Bharat NCAP has published the full results. The governing body had crash tested the Punch back in December 2025. The 5-star safety rating applies to all 8 trims of the SUV.

Tata Punch facelift: Bharat NCAP crash test results explained

The Punch facelift scored 30.58 points out of a possible 32 in the Adult Occupant Protection test. Upon frontal impact, it showed good protection to the driver’s head, neck, pelvis, and thighs. The chest, legs, and feet showed adequate protection. Meanwhile, all parts of the passenger’s body were well protected, except for the right leg, which showed adequate protection. Upon side impact, the driver’s head, abdomen, and pelvis showed good protection, while the chest was adequately protected. Good protection was shown across the board in the Side Pole Impact test.

In the Child Occupant Protection test, the Punch facelift garnered 45 points of a maximum 49. This comprised a Dynamic score of 24 points (max. 24), a CRS installation score of 12 (max. 12), and a Vehicle Assessment score of 9 (max. 13). The child seats for the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies were installed in rear-facing direction using ISOFIX anchorages. The SUV scored full points in the frontal and side crash tests.

The Tata Punch facelift is packed with safety features like 6 airbags, 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, a 360-degree camera, Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent Control, and more features.

There are a total of 3 powertrain options on offer. The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated ‘Revotron’ petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 88hp and 115Nm of torque. In a CNG guise, it puts out 73hp and 103Nm. The CNG model has a split-cylinder setup. Both these engines can be mated to a manual or AMT gearbox. The new 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, borrowed from the Tata Nexon, produces a maximum power output of 120hp and 170Nm of torque. It can only be mated to a manual transmission on the Punch. Furthermore, it is only available on the Adventure and Accomplished+ S trims.

Final Thoughts

As mentioned earlier, this 5-star safety rating applies to all 8 trims of the Punch facelift. Prices for the SUV start at Rs 5.59 lakh and go up to Rs 10.54 lakh. It rivals the Hyundai ExterNissan MagniteCitroen C3Toyota Urban Cruiser TaisorMaruti Suzuki FronxSkoda Kylaq, and Maruti Suzuki Brezza in India.
