Tata Curvv EV spotted testing in India ahead of launch

Key Highlights

  • The new Tata Curvv EV is expected to launch in the coming months.
  • The ICE model of the crossover was showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo in February.
  • The EV will be made available in LR and MR variants.

After taking the wraps off the ICE Curvv at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo last month, Tata Motors has been testing the EV version of the crossover on Indian roads. The Tata Curvv EV was spotted testing in Coimbatore recently, ahead of its launch in the coming months. The electric version of the crossover will look identical to the ICE model, barring a few EV-exclusive details.

Tata Curvv EV: What to expect?

The front facia of the Tata Curvv EV looks very close to its SUV counterpart – the Tata Nexon EV. A sleek LED light bar runs across the grille of the car and merges into the DRLs. The grille gets piano black highlights. The LED headlamps are placed inside edgy housings on the bumper. This bumper also gets a faux skid plate and an air intake unit. An air vent can be found above the number plate. At the back, the LED tail lamps are connected by a light bar as well.

The principle difference in the design of the Tata Curvv EV lies in its profile. This is where it looks undeniably like a coupe-SUV crossover, majorly due to its sloping roofline. The rear spoiler and the roofline are connected by a large panoramic glass roof. The Curvv stands at dimensions of 4,308mm x 1,810mm x 1,630mm. It has a wheelbase that spans 2,560mm. The ICE version of the crossover has a boot space capacity of 422 litres.

Like the Nexon EV, the Tata Curvv EV will also be made available in LR and MR variants. The LR variants will have a driving range of up to 500 km. Tata has kept a tight lid on the battery and engine specs for the EV. The ICE version of the Curvv, however, will be powered by the 1.5-litre CRAIL diesel engine. This engine produces a maximum power output of 113hp and 260Nm of torque.

The 125hp, 225Nm producing 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine is also expected to be added to the list of powertrain options for the crossover. The two ICE engines can be paired with manual and AMT gearboxes. Tata will also introduce a CNG powertrain later down the line.

As of now, not much is known about the instrumentation of the Tata Curvv EV and ICE models. The crossover gets a clean design for the dashboard and the cabin. Tata says that the SUV’s interior ‘integrates state-of-the-art onboard technologies and Human Machine Interface’. More details are expected to be made public as we get closer to launch.

Conclusion

Prices for the ICE models of the Curvv are expected to start at Rs 11 lakh. Expect the EV to cost a significant premium over the ICE version. Upon launch, Tata Curvv will primarily rival the Citroen C3X along with other midsize SUVs like Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun.
