Skoda unveiled its newest compact SUV in India last month. The Skoda Kylaq was subsequently launched on December 2 at a starting price of Rs 7.98 lakh. Skoda Kylaq: Off to a flying start

Skoda India will produce 33,000 units of the Kylaq in its first stage of production. The sub-4m SUV will be manufactured in the automaker’s Pune plant. Once the first batch of the SUV has been delivered, Skoda will reopen the bookings for the sold-out variants. The automaker plans to deliver all first-batch units by May 2025. Skoda India has also increased the production capacity of its Pune plant by 30%. The facility aims to produce 255,000 vehicles annually.

Skoda Kylaq stands at dimensions of 3,995mm x 1,783mm x 1,619mm and a 2,566mm wheelbase. It follows the automaker’s ‘Modern Solid’ design language, becoming the first Skoda SUV in India to do so. The front grille of the SUV flaunts a shiny black finish and 3D ribs. Flanking the grille on either side are sleek LED DRLs. The split LED headlamps are housed inside boxy cutouts under the DRLs. The LED tail lamps at the back are connected by a black trim with the Skoda logo.

Under the hood, Skoda Kylaq gets a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine. This engine generates a maximum power output of 115hp and 178Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. The SUV can go from 0 to 100 kph in just 10.5 seconds. Its top speed is capped at 188kmph.

Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of ŠAVWIPL, said, “We’re happy to begin production of Škoda Auto India’s first sub-4-metre SUV. Congratulations to the entire team on the start of production. The Kylaq is engineered and developed in India to cater to the evolving requirements of Indian customers. By manufacturing the Kylaq locally, we proudly support the Made-in-India initiative, maintaining the Group’s DNA of delivering safety, comfort and driving dynamics. The car was met with a positive reception at its world premiere last month, and I am confident that Škoda Kylaq will truly resonate with Indian car buyers.”
