Renault Boreal breaks cover, India launch on the cards

Renault has taken the wraps off its new C-segment SUV. Renault Boreal is designed for markets outside of Europe. It will go on sale in over 70 countries in Latin America, Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Mediterranean basin. The SUV will be manufactured in Curitiba, Brazil and Bursa, Turkey. It will be underpinned by Renault’s CMF platform.

Renault Boreal: What to expect?

The Renault Boreal stands at dimensions of 4,556mm x 1,841mm x 1,650mm and has a 2,702mm wheelbase. The boot space comes up to 586 litres, expanding up to 1,770 litres with the rear seats folded down. The Boreal takes design inspiration from Renault’s Niagara concept car. This inspiration is quite visible in the SUV’s segmented LED DRLs. The 2D diamond Renault logo on the grille is backlit. The SUV rests on 19-inch alloy wheels. The rear door handles are mounted on the B-pillar. The profile of the SUV looks similar to that of the Duster SUV.

Inside, the Renault Boreal takes design inspiration from the Dacia Bigster. It gets dual 10-inch displays for the infotainment system and the instrument cluster. Renault calls this setup the ‘OpenR’ dual horizontal screen. Other features of the SUV include LED mood lighting with 48 colours, dual-zone climate control, rear AC vents, powered front seats, a massage function for the driver’s seat, a panoramic sunroof, a Harmon Kardon audio system, and more. It is equipped with a Level 2 ADAS package containing 24 features.

Renault Boreal is powered by a 1.3-litre TCe turbocharged direct-injection engine. This engine will be compatible with petrol and flex fuel, depending on the region. The Turkey-spec petrol model generates a maximum power output of 138hp and 240Nm of torque. Meanwhile, its Latin American version puts out 156hp and 270Nm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The SUV can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.26 seconds, depending on the region.

Gilles Vidal, VP Design, Renault Brand & Ampere, said, “Renault Boreal embodies the brand’s new styling approach: sculpted, expressive bodywork, with taut lines, contained volumes and technical features providing structure. Sophisticated in every detail, it is part of the same approach as our latest European vehicles. Its balanced proportions give it real onroad presence. Inside the car, the spacious, contemporary cabin features an original dashboard, with carefully selected materials and contoured seats designed for comfort and support.”

Final Thoughts

Renault has not announced the launch schedule for the Boreal yet. It is expected to launch in India in early 2026. Upon launch, it will rival the likes of Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Alcazar, and MG Hector Plus.
