Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara
Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch its new midsize SUV. The new offering will rival the hugely popular Hyundai Creta. The automaker will take the wraps off the vehicle on September 3. It has been internally codenamed Y17. Rumours suggest that it could be called ‘Escudo’ or ‘Victoris’. The SUV will be sold through Maruti’s Arena outlets.

The new 5-seater SUV from Maruti Suzuki will sit between Brezza and Grand Vitara in the automaker’s portfolio. It will be exclusively sold through Arena outlets. Maruti Suzuki retails its affordable, mass-market offerings through its Arena dealerships. The new SUV will be the best offering in Arena’s lineup.
The new teaser dropped by Maruti Suzuki gives a glimpse of the SUV’s tail lamp design. The segmented tail lamp setup takes design inspiration from the e Vitara. Multiple test mules of the SUV have been spotted on road tests leading up to the reveal. These mules suggest an e Vitara-like pattern for the LED headlamps and DRLs as well.
Spy shots reveal that the new Maruti Suzuki will retain the dashboard layout of the Grand Vitara. It is expected to feature a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic air conditioning, ambient lighting, and wireless charging. The Grand Vitara also gets premium features like a 360-degree camera, a Head Up Display (HUD), a fully digital instrument cluster, an air purifier, and a panoramic sunroof. It remains to be seen which premium features will make it to the Y17.
Maruti Suzuki has not revealed the powertrain details for its new SUV. It is possible that it may borrow the Grand Vitara’s powertrain options. Maruti’s flagship midsize SUV is available in 2 engine options – a 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine with mild hybrid technology and Toyota’s 1.5-litre TNGA petrol engine with a strong hybrid system. The former puts out 103hp and 137Nm, while the latter produces 92hp and 137Nm by itself and 115hp and 137Nm in a strong hybrid setup. The electric motor alone produces a maximum power of 80hp with 141Nm peak torque.
